We are excited to welcome our community back into The Colonial Theatre for movies! We have established new cleaning and safety protocols, 25% capacity, a shorter week and an abbreviated film selection. Our virtual screenings through The Colonial@Home will still be available for those who prefer to wait a little longer to come into the Theatre.

For full details on our reopening strategy, please visit our Reopening FAQ page.

Here is a quick overview of some of the health and safety policies we have implemented to protect all at the theatre:

  • Daily Health Screenings: staff and volunteers will have their temperatures read before starting their shifts.
  • Required PPE: staff, volunteers and patrons will be required to wear masks or face shields. To protect yourself and others we require that all guests wear masks or face shields as they enter and and move around the Theatre. If you don’t have a mask or face shield, we will provide one for you. When seated in the auditorium, masks and face shields may be removed to enjoy food and drink.
  • We are not accepting cash at this time in order to reduce contact between staff, volunteers, and guests.
  • Plexiglass shields will be installed in the concession area where staff, volunteers, and guests interact. Concession personnel are also required to wear gloves while working.
  • Frequent Handwashing/Sanitation: staff and volunteers will be required to wash their hands routinely for at least 20 seconds, as well as sanitize their hands or wear gloves when in contact with others.
  • Auditorium seating will be reduced to 25% capacity to enable adequate social distancing. We will be blocking-off every other row and asking guests to keep four empty seats (or six feet) between parties to further support social distancing.

What steps is The Colonial taking to protect our community?

  • Enhanced Cleaning Procedures: Common areas and high touch points will be routinely disinfected throughout the day. There will be fewer showings so we can ensure the building is thoroughly cleaned.
  • Social Distancing Standards: Maintain social distance before, during and after the movie. Social distancing will be required in all lines including ticket booth, concession area, and restrooms. Signs will be posted throughout the theatre for guidance, and seats will be roped off to ensure all parties are safely spaced out.
  • Simplified Menu: Selections will be temporarily reduced in order to ensure quick service and shorter lines.
  • Reduced Auditorium Capacities: we will reduce our capacity to by 75% to ensure ample room in the Theatre.

What steps will The Colonial take to operate more safely?

We have implemented the following changes to protect all at the theatre:

  • Daily Health Screenings: staff and volunteers will have their temperatures read before starting their shifts. Anyone who has a fever or symptoms is required to self-quarantine until symptom free for at least 72 hours.
  • Frequent Handwashing/Sanitation: staff and volunteers will be required to wash their hands routinely for at least 20 seconds, as well as sanitize their hands or wear gloves when in contact with others.
  • Required PPE: staff, volunteers and patrons will be required to wear masks or face shields.
  • Plexiglass shields will be installed in the concession area where staff, volunteers, and guests interact. Concession personnel are also required to wear gloves while working.

Should I wear a mask?

Yes – it is required to enter the building. To protect yourself and others we will require that all guests wear masks or face shields as they enter and and move around the Theatre. Will Food & Drinks be served?

  • Yes! We will offer a simplified menu in order to ensure quick service and shorter lines. This limited menu includes:

What else can I do to help?

Here are some steps you can take:

  • Consistent Handwashing: Wash your hands often and avoid touching your face.
  • Frequent Hand Sanitizing: Take advantage of the hand sanitizer stations and disinfecting wipes that will be positioned throughout the theatre.
  • PPE Required: As we reopen, to protect yourself and others we will require that all guests wear masks or face shields as they enter and enjoy movies at our theatre. If you don’t have a mask, we will provide one for you. In the auditorium, masks may be removed to enjoy food and drinks.
  • Self-Quarantine if Necessary: If you have symptoms such as fever or cough, or have come in contact with someone with symptoms, please do not see a movie with us until you have been symptom free for at least 72 hours.

Are there any changes to how tickets should be purchased?

We encourage ticket purchases on our website to help reduce interactions at the theatre. Tickets will also be purchasable via credit or debit card at our box office. We are not accepting cash at this time in order to reduce contact between staff, volunteers, and guests.

Are there any changes to seating in the Theatre?

When the Theatre reopens on July 9, the auditorium seating will be reduced to 25% capacity to enable adequate social distancing. We will be blocking-off every other row and asking guests to keep four empty seats (or six feet) between parties to further support social distancing.

Can I expect additional changes?

The Colonial is closely monitoring federal, state and local guidelines and our policies and procedures will continue to evolve accordingly.
