Interview with Aj Gonzalez, The Colonial’s New Programming Manager!

We’re thrilled to introduce the newest member of our team: Aj Gonzalez (they/them), as our new Programming Manager! Aj brings a strong background in live event production, festival management, and artist coordination, and they’re ready to bring fresh ideas and exciting programming to The Colonial.

We sat down with Aj to learn more about their background, what excites them about this role, and what they hope to bring to our stage.

Welcome, Aj! Can you tell us a little bit about your background in event production and programming?

Yes! I’ve worked on a variety of music festivals and live events across New England, playing a role in organizing and managing Houston Hill Music Festival, GreggFest, and aspects of Jerry Jam. I’ve also worked with Catamount Arts, where I supported a wide range of events, from large-scale outdoor concerts to intimate community gatherings. My experience includes everything from artist coordination and scheduling to budgeting and production logistics, and I love the process of bringing events to life.

What excites you most about joining The Colonial?

The North Country has always had a strong sense of community and creativity, and I’m excited to be a part of that in a new way. The Colonial is such a special place, and I’m looking forward to getting to know our audience, learning more about what makes this space so special, and curating experiences that bring people together.

How do you see your role shaping The Colonial’s programming?

Since much of the 2025 season was already in motion when I joined, I’m excited to experience this year’s lineup, see how our audience responds, and start shaping ideas for the future. By the time we begin planning for 2026, I hope to take what I’ve learned and curate a season that resonates with our community. To me, great programming isn’t just about booking great artists—it’s about creating meaningful experiences that inspire and connect people.

What does community-driven programming mean to you?

To me, it means creating events that feel relevant, exciting, and engaging for the people who live here. I want to bring programming that reflects the interests of our community—whether that’s music, comedy, film, or unique cultural experiences—while also introducing fresh and exciting new artists to The Colonial’s stage.

What are your goals for your first season at The Colonial?

My biggest goal this year is to get to know our audience—who they are, what they love, and how we can best serve them. I want to listen, learn, and build connections so that I can help shape programming that feels special and meaningful to the people who walk through our doors.

Do you have any artistic or musical interests outside of The Colonial?

Yes! I play guitar and have been taking lessons with a former professor of mine from Vermont State University- Lyndon. It’s been a great way to stay connected to music and continue to learn. I also love watching movies and listening to music. And I especially love live music!

Speaking of films, do you have any favorite movies?

I do! Some of my favorites are V for Vendetta, The Count of Monte Cristo (2002), and The Sandlot.

What about music? Any favorite artists?

My taste is all over the place. I love alternative and indie artists like Noah Kahan, The Kooks, and “hey, nothing”, but I also listen to pop artists like Chappell Roan and Remi Wolf, plus some pop-rock bands like Fall Out Boy and Pierce the Veil.

What’s something fun people might not know about you?

My family has always had a connection to the North Country, and we spent every summer camping in Woodstock, NH. It’s always been a place for us to slow down, enjoy nature, and be together, so it feels really special to now be working in a place that has meant so much to me over the years.

Anything else you’d like to share with The Colonial’s audience?

I just want to say that I’m really looking forward to meeting everyone! If you see me at an event, feel free to say hi—I’d love to hear what you’re excited about and what you’d love to see at The Colonial.

Join us in welcoming Aj! We’re so excited to have them on board and can’t wait to see the amazing work they’ll bring to The Colonial. Be sure to say hello when you see them at an event!
