“Silent Film” is a misnomer; even the earliest cinema was never shown “silently.” Film historian and pianist Eric Van Leuven illustrates this concept with the assistance of Buster Keaton in “One Week”, revered as one of Keaton’s most ingenious comedy shorts in which he constructs a “build by number” pre-fab house!
Beginning with a brief history of early film comedy, as well as relevant biographical information on Buster’s career, Eric will then provide the piano accompaniment to the 20-minute short—as was the custom when shown at the Colonial Theater 98 years ago! This will be followed by an opportunity for Q & A.
